Rental housing

The Marlborough Sustainable Housing Trust began its work with a focus on housing people in charitable need with significant housing needs, particularly those associated with age, health problems or disability.

After one earlier development, we began work in 2022 with support from the Rātā Foundation on three properties in Hutcheson St, Blenheim. Each has Lifemark 5 ratings for people with disabilities and Homestar 7 ratings which see photo-voltaic panels and highly efficient heating to reduce power bills. Each home has a big kitchen/dining/living area, a garden and two bathrooms

These affordable, fit-for-purpose and accessible homes are rented to low-income families, with tenancies managed on our behalf by the Christchurch Methodist Mission.

In June 2024, these homes – built for us by Mike Greer Homes – won a merit award in the Property Council’s prestigious national awards.

As the cost of housing ramped up for working families, our trust looked to provide homes for some of those people with the skills needed in Marlborough’s key sectors.

In late 2023, Marlborough’s RLA Construction began work to develop five four-bedroom homes on a site in High St Blenheim for the Trust, again with support from the Rātā Foundation. Rātā representatives toured the site in late 2023.

They represent top talent across disciplines, including engineers, architects, accountants, quantity surveyors, planning and scheduling specialists, cost engineers, project managers communications professionals.

We continue to look for other opportunities to develop low-income and below market rent homes in Marlborough.

Please contact us if you have property or capital that might assist.

For those looking for rentals, we need to stress that we have limited homes and all are currently occupied. Most of our homes here in Marlborough are managed by the Christchurch Methodist Mission. Please contact CMM if you are looking for accommodation.
